Sarawak deputy police chief Mancha Ata said police received a report on Sept 26 about a Facebook post from an account with the username “Engkecong Kampung”.
“On Sept 23, the owner of the account (allegedly) posted an inflammatory message, urging all Dayaks to gather at the Sibu court on Oct 17,” he said at the Sarawak police contingent headquarters here.
However, he did not elaborate on the case that is scheduled for hearing at the Sibu court on Oct 17.
“An investigation paper has been opened under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.”
Mancha advised the public to use social media prudently and not to issue statements of a seditious nature that could disrupt the peace of the multiracial community in the state.
