39-year-old man dies in custody in Kedah

PETALING JAYA:
A 39-year-old man has died at the Kuala Muda police headquarters in Kedah shortly after being arrested for a drug-related offence.

Bukit Aman’s integrity and compliance director Azri Ahmad said the suspect had claimed to be ill and died during the documentation process.

“A medical officer from the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sungai Petani arrived at the scene and pronounced him dead,” Azri said in a statement.

Police have classified his death as “sudden death” while they wait for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Azri also said Bukit Aman’s death in custody investigation unit will carry out an investigation before handing the final report to the coroner.
