SESB senior general manager Idris Noor said there were no disruptions in the electricity supply system from the SESB-owned electrical substation that provided power to KKIA on the day of the incident.
“The management of KKIA has verified the matter, and it was reported that the damage was due to internal building wiring issues,” he said in a statement.
Idris said an immediate inspection was done after they received complaints about a power outage at 9.38pm yesterday. They found no supply disruption at the main KKIA substation.
Warisan vice-president Junz Wong had called out KKIA over the power disruption, saying it was “so embarrassing”.
Social media users were also critical, calling the blackout “regressive”.
The blackout came just as Putatan Umno chief Jeffery Nor Mohamed shot down an idea for the state government to have its own airline, stating that it should instead focus on resolving its water and electricity supply woes first.
The incident also comes less than a month after state tourism, culture and environment minister Christina Liew said international tourists arriving at KKIA were facing difficulties getting transport.
