The Perikatan Nasional secretary-general claimed that the action was politically motivated due to “pressure and interference from top political leaders” in the federal government.
“This is an effort by the desperate Anwar Ibrahim-led government to apply pressure on the leadership of PN, which is gaining support from the people. It is also a dirty tactic to create a negative perception of PN.
“I am sure that more politically motivated actions will be taken against me and other PN leaders soon, including using the police to investigate me for criticising DAP on the campaign trail for the recent state elections,” he said in a statement.
The former home minister said this latest action would not deter him from his struggle, adding that he would continue to “fight this tyrannical government” for the sake of the nation and its people.
He pointed out that he had issued the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and its chief commissioner Azam Baki a letter of demand for linking him to a RM15 million corruption case involving a businessman.
Previously, Hamzah said he would take legal action against the government and the MACC for linking him to the corruption case involving businessman Sim Choo Tian.
In May, Sim was charged with demanding RM15 million from another businessman, Hep Kim Hong, some time in June 2021.
The prosecution said the sum was meant as an inducement for Hamzah to assist Hep’s company, Asia Coding Sdn Bhd, to secure projects from the home ministry.
Sim was slapped with three other charges of receiving RM15 million to secure projects from the ministry. He pleaded not guilty to all four charges.
In response, Hamzah had said it seemed like “certain people and businessmen” were pressured into “pointing their finger” at him.
In February, MACC froze several bank accounts held by Bersatu as part of a probe into the party involving the alleged misappropriation of funds for Covid-19 stimulus packages.
PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin was later charged in court with four counts of abuse of power in relation to the Jana Wibawa programme for allegedly obtaining RM232.5 million for his political party, Bersatu.
The former prime minister was also slapped with three money laundering charges.
However, Muhyiddin was acquitted by the High Court of his power abuse charges last week, with Justice Jamil Hussin saying the charges were defective and lacked particulars as to how he abused his power as prime minister between March 2020 and August 2021.
