PETALING JAYA:
A kindergarten teacher in Penampang, Sabah, has been jailed for a year and fined RM10,000, or another year in prison in default, for abusing a four-year-old boy at the preschool.

According to The Borneo Post, 27-year-old Melona Eva Ezwa Musah pleaded guilty to the charge after it was read out before sessions court judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan.

Amir also ordered Melona to be placed on a two-year good behaviour bond upon completion of her prison sentence.

Melona had committed the offence at Tadika Srikandi Penampang on Aug 8 and was detained by police soon after.

Previously, Kota Kinabalu police chief Zaidi Abdullah said reports had been filed by the parents of the child, the kindergarten’s operator and the teacher, who claimed she was assaulted by the child’s parents after the incident.

Zaidi said the boy suffered injuries to several parts of his body, prompting the parents to head to the kindergarten to view the CCTV recording of the incident.

A recording of the CCTV footage apparently showed the suspect kicking, scolding and hitting the boy in front of the other children present.

A separate CCTV recording is said to have shown the couple berating the suspect before hitting her.
