Pahang state assembly Speaker Sharkar Shamsudin handed the notice of vacancy to Pahang EC director Zamree Hamli at Wisma Sri Pahang in Kuantan this morning, Bernama reported.
Zamree said a meeting to discuss the vacancy might be held within a week.
Sharkar said the notice was a standard procedure mandated for circumstances when there were vacant state assembly seats.
“Today, we have submitted the notice to the EC to inform them of the vacancy of the Pelangai state assembly seat following Johari’s death on Aug 17,” he said.
Johari, 53, was among the 10 on board the plane killed in the crash at Bandar Elmina in Shah Alam on Thursday. Also killed were a motorist and a motorcyclist.
A first-term assemblyman, Johari served as the local government, housing, environment and green technology committee chairman.
He won the Pelangai state seat with a 4,048-vote majority against Perikatan Nasional’s Kasim Samad in last November’s general election (GE15).
