Isham said the Supreme Council has not convened a meeting, nearly a week after the party suffered a terrible defeat in the state elections.
“The grassroots will become increasingly restless if we, as party leaders, remain silent and fail to provide clear direction to members during this crisis.
“Being in a state of denial and delaying (the problem so that) the issues are forgotten is not an option for us at this juncture,” he said on Facebook.
Umno had contested 108 seats for the unity coalition but won just 19, a win rate of 17.6%.
Isham also stressed the importance of inviting all grassroots members to attend the proposed special assembly as it involves crucial party decisions.
“We are in an extraordinary situation. Special circumstances require special measures,” he said.
Previously, Isham had questioned the party’s alliance with DAP after registering huge losses in the state elections.
Isham said he had encountered party members who voiced their concerns about partnering with DAP while campaigning for the state elections.
He said the party needed to “resolve the DAP issue”, and suggested that Umno consider cooperating with the party only in the government and not in elections.
