Taib’s son’s injunction bid against stepmother for mention on Sept 4

Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib wants to prevent the transfer of shares in a private company to Raghad Kurdi Taib.

The Sarawak governor’s son, Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib, and wife, Raghad Kurdi Taib (right), are locked in a legal battle in the Kuching High Court over the ownership of shares in a private company.
KUCHING:
The Kuching High Court today fixed Sept 4 for further mention of Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib’s application for an injunction against his stepmother, Raghad Kurdi Taib.

Sulaiman is the third son of Sarawak governor Abdul Taib Mahmud.

It was reported in June that Sulaiman was seeking an injunction to prevent the transfer of shares in a private company to Raghad.

Justice Alexander Siew today ordered the first defendant, Raghad, to file and serve affidavits in response by Aug 25.

The suit also names RHB Bank Berhad as the second defendant.

Earlier, Raghad’s counsel, Shankar Ram, requested 14 days to file her affidavit on the grounds that Taib had just undergone an operation.

He said Raghad is currently attending to Taib at a hospital in Istanbul, Turkey, on a full-time basis, and her lawyers had difficulty contacting her.

Sulaiman, a former deputy tourism minister, is managing director of Cahya Mata Sarawak Group.

His mother, the late Laila Taib, died in April 2009.

Taib married Raghad in December the following year.
