GOMBAK:
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay has warned all parties against provocation in the event of a change of government in any of the six states holding elections today.

“We have gone through many elections, we are mature enough to stay clear of provocation. I urge all party members to think rationally and avoid being emotional,” he told reporters at the polling centre at SK Klang Gate.

He said the police will not hesitate to act against anyone who breaks the law.

Yesterday, IGP Razarudin Husain said the police were ready to face any possibility during and after the elections.

He said policemen will be deployed to safeguard strategic locations, including palaces and state government buildings.

Ayob also said the police have opened 131 investigation papers into offences related to the state elections.

While he did not provide details of the offences, he said none involved the 3R (race, religion and royalty) issues.

Nearly 10 million people in Selangor, Penang, Kedah, Negeri Sembilan, Kelantan and Terengganu are eligible to vote in today’s state elections.
