This comes after the Perikatan Nasional (PN) secretary-general sent a letter of demand to MACC, its chief commissioner Azam Baki, and the government today, accusing them of “power abuse, conspiring to injure his reputation as the head of the opposition, and committing misfeasance in public office”.
However, Azam said that neither he nor MACC have received the letter of demand so far.
In response to Hamzah’s allegation, Azam said the anti-graft agency will not bow to any threats against it.
“We deny the allegation of the abuse of power. This is a free country and anyone can sue anyone, we will not bow to any threat.
“Go ahead and sue us and let the court decide,” he said when contacted.
Earlier, in a press conference, Hamzah lambasted the agency for allegedly pressing businessman Sim Choo Thiam to implicate him in a RM15 million corruption case.
Hamzah also read a police report lodged by Sim in June this year which stated that MACC officers had threatened him with criminal action and detention unless he implicated Hamzah in the alleged wrongdoing.
