We don’t need ‘sweet promises’, say Lembah Jaya folk

Voters want the next Lembah Jaya assemblyman to solve problems such as floods, lack of parking space and traffic congestion.

Lembah Jaya will see a straight fight between Pakatan Harapan’s Altimet and Perikatan Nasional’s Sharifah Haslizah Syed Ariffin.
AMPANG:
Voters in Lembah Jaya are hoping that their next elected representative will solve the issues they face in the area instead of only making “sweet promises”.

Restaurant owner Yunos Khan, 56, said he hoped the next Lembah Jaya assemblyman would focus on the flood issue, the lack of parking space, and the traffic congestion in the constituency.

“The next assemblyman would need to look into the flood issue in some areas. We also want to see better drainage systems.

“Parking is another issue, made worse by narrow streets. This is a concern during emergencies because many double-park their vehicles,” he told FMT.

Another Lembah Jaya resident, Mohamad Yunus, said he hoped the next elected representative would do something about the influx of undocumented migrants who he claimed are working here illegally.

He also claimed that foreigners seemed to have outnumbered locals at many businesses operating in the area and urged the candidates to take the issue seriously.

The Lembah Jaya state seat will see a straight fight between the Pakatan Harapan candidate, rapper Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Alhadad, who is better known as Altimet, and Perikatan Nasional’s Sharifah Haslizah Syed Ariffin.

The seat was won by Haniza Talha on a PKR ticket with a majority of 14,790 votes in the 2018 general election (GE14).

Asked about Altimet’s chances, a resident of Lembah Jaya said he is only known as an artiste.

Retiree Kamaruddin Yusof, 65, said he was more keen on Sharifah Haslizah’s background and experience. She is also Ampang PAS information chief.

“I don’t look at the party, but the candidate. (I prefer) someone who has some experience. Sharifah Haslizah used to be an Ampang municipal councillor. Altimet’s a singer, can he do the job?

“We don’t want a representative like the former assemblyman (Haniza), who disappeared after winning the election,” he said.
