Commenting on a viral video of an elderly woman referring to Umno as being “infidels till the end of time”, Hashim said PAS’s stand on the matter had long been decided and was final.
“It is not PAS’s view. Our stand in this matter is clear. We do not consider Umno the enemy. We reached out to be friends, but Umno doesn’t want to,” he told FMT.
He claimed the viral video had been played up by certain parties to garner votes for the Aug 12 state elections, adding that anyone could pretend to be a PAS member and make such remarks.
“I think we don’t have to pay any attention to that video.”
In the video, the senior citizen made the remark when approached by a young woman campaigning for a Barisan Nasional candidate. It is believed to have taken place in Kelantan.
This prompted Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki to urge PAS leaders to correct this kind of thinking among their grassroots.
Yesterday, religious affairs minister Na’im Mokhtar advised Muslims not to accuse fellow Muslims of being “kafir” or infidels, Bernama reported.
Stating that such accusations were extremely serious and unwarranted, he warned that it could also cause unrest within the community and with other communities.
