The Muar MP said he had consistently reprimanded Perikatan Nasional, when it was in power.
The former minister said while he had been vocal, criticisms were “for both sides”, namely PH and PN.
“When I raised the issue of equal allocations for MPs across the board, it came up during the reign of the previous government.
“However, now that we are in power, we are doing the same thing,” he told a press conference here.
Muda is currently backing the unity government, led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Meanwhile, Muda defended the party’s decision to name Ahmad Qusyairi Abdull Rahim as their candidate for the Temiang seat.
Temiang is a Chinese-majority seat and Qusyairi claimed it had been 30 years since a Malay candidate was fielded there.
However, he said the party was not trying to “play up sentiments”. Instead, he insisted that Muda wanted to offer voters an alternative.
Syed Saddiq today said Muda was out to prove that it is a party that is able to attract voters from various backgrounds.
He also said previously there were instances where Chinese candidates were fielded in Malay-majority areas and vice-versa.
“There are those who would say this is not the best of strategies as the people tend to vote along communal lines,” said Syed Saddiq.
“But I am confident people will look up to a team that comprises various races,” he said.
PH’s Ng Chin Tsai is looking to defend the constituency for the fourth time in a three-cornered fight against Qusyairi and PN’s Chua Eng Pu.
