PETALING JAYA:
The government’s Payung Rahmah programme has been extended to sports equipment, allowing people to purchase various sports items at discounted prices.

In launching the Rahmah Sports Initiative, youth and sports minister Hannah Yeoh said more than 100 types of sports equipment and sportswear were for sale at cheaper prices.

She added that consumers would be able to enjoy a discount of between 10% and 30% on the items, reported Bernama.

Yeoh said the programme would be held for 10 weeks, from today until Oct 14.

“The Rahmah Sports Initiative is to continue (the late domestic trade and cost of living minister Salahuddin Ayub’s) legacy and efforts in ensuring no Malaysians are left behind (in sports) due to the high cost of living.

“We want to ensure that children and those in the B40 income group who cannot take up sports due to financial constraints are now able to purchase sports equipment and take part in sports,” she said when launching the programme at Klang Aeon BiG hypermarket.

While the initiative is currently only available at Aeon BiG outlets nationwide, Yeoh believes the domestic trade and cost of living ministry would get in touch with vendors to expand this initiative to other hypermarkets.
