PETALING JAYA:
The women, family and community development ministry has thanked members of the public for coming to the aid of a woman who was sexually harassed at the Maluri LRT station last Friday.

It said the case is still being investigated by the police, adding that the social welfare department and the ministry’s counsellors board are ready to provide psychological support and counselling to the victim.

“The government will not compromise on any offences related to women’s rights and welfare and is committed to increasing awareness about sexual harassment,” it said in a statement.

A video of the incident, which went viral on social media, showed a man struggling with a woman on the floor of a train platform before a group of men rushed to her aid and pulled the man off her.

The suspect collected his shoes that had come off during the struggle and walked away.

Police have recorded the statements of the victim and eyewitnesses.

Yesterday, Kuala Lumpur police chief Shuhaily Zain said the suspect had been identified and he was seeking psychiatric treatment at Hospital Kuala Lumpur.
