The council said its deregistration was due to “certain parties with ill intentions” and that despite efforts to work collaboratively with all members, “a divisive agenda prevailed”.

“MTC is deeply saddened to announce that after relentless efforts by its former secretary-general, Noorzaleha Baharuddin, the association has been successfully deregistered by RoS.

“Despite the unwavering commitment of MTC’s executive committee and management in adhering to the registration guidelines, it appears that an ulterior motive has prevailed,” it said in a statement.

It also said the police’s investigation into the alleged mismanagement of MTC funds is ongoing.

The council stressed that its executive committee and management had strictly adhered to its constitution and principles, and that every decision made was done transparently and in compliance with established rules and regulations.

“We have diligently addressed any queries posed by RoS through interviews and official correspondence and we will continue to appeal to the home ministry on the matter,” it said.

It also expressed hope to discuss the matter with the minister and seek a just resolution “to preserve the essence of MTC” and its vital role in advancing the tourism industry.
