At a press conference, Samsuri, who is also a PAS vice-president, said former MP Ahmad Amzad Hashim is among those shortlisted to contest the seat.
Amzad was first elected Kuala Terengganu MP in the 2018 general election. In the 15th general election (GE15), he defended his parliamentary seat with a 40,907-vote majority.
On June 27, the election court nullified Amzad’s victory in the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat in GE15 over allegations of vote-buying. The seat was later declared vacant.
Amzad has since expressed his willingness to defend the seat if given the chance to do so again.
Earlier today, the Election Commission announced that the Kuala Terengganu by-election would be held simultaneously with the six state elections on Aug 12.
Nominations for candidates will take place on July 29 while early voting is set for Aug 8.
