In Selangor, Muda has named four candidates, namely Al-Hafiz Ikhwan (Dusun Tua), R Siva Prakash (Kuala Kubu Bharu), Afriena Shaqiera Sariff (Sungai Kandis) and Dobby Chew (Seri Setia).

Priyankaa Loh will contest the Pantai Jerejak seat in Penang.

Last week, Muda announced its first batch of candidates for the state polls in Selangor with party secretary-general Amir Hariri Abdul Hadi slated to contest in Seri Serdang.

The other candidates unveiled for Selangor were Saiyidah Izzati Nur Razak Maideen (Batu Tiga), R Thanusha (Sentosa), and Melanie Ting (Bukit Antarabangsa).

To date, the party has announced 10 candidates in three different states.

In making the announcement on the six candidates today, Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said the remaining seats will be announced from time to time.

The eight seats in Selangor and one in Penang were held by Pakatan Harapan (PH) before the respective state legislative assemblies were dissolved.

‘The seats belong to the people’

When asked to comment on the potential clashes, Syed Saddiq said PH should not consider those seats their “safe deposits”.

“The seats belong to the people. Most leaders are too comfortable and think that no one can compete in their areas,” he said at a press conference at Muda’s headquarters here.

“They think it’s their safe seats and cannot be ‘messed with’. It’s not fair.”

Meanwhile, Luqman said his decision to contest in his home state was inspired by Syed Saddiq and Muda deputy president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz’s decision to contest in their state, Johor, at the previous general and state elections, respectively.

Syed Saddiq is the Muar MP while Amira is the Puteri Wangsa assemblyman.

“I want to send a clear message to the Terengganu people (living outside of the state) that you should never forget where you were born, raised and acquired knowledge,” he said at a press conference.

“Don’t forget to serve your own state.”
