
Lau secured 429 votes and Oh 546 votes out of the total of 1,130, according to Gerakan national election supervisor Soo Kay Ping
Three new vice-presidents were elected: Koo Shiaw Lee, Baljit Singh Jigiri Singh, and Alexander Lo; while 18 others were elected to the party’s central committee.
Lau’s challengers were former vice-president Michael Gan, former secretary-general Liang Teck Meng and federal territories Gerakan chairman Lau Hoi Keong.
Oh saw off a challenge from party secretary-general Mak Kah Keong, deputy speaker V Prabagaran, and Bayan Baru Gerakan chief Kiew Hen Chong.
Lau took over as Gerakan president in November 2018 after the party had failed to win any seat in the general election that year.
He led Gerakan into joining Muhyiddin Yassin’s Perikatan Nasional coalition in 2021. However, the party failed to win any seat at the 2022 general election or any of the prior state elections.
Chong Mon Sie was elected Wanita Gerakan chief with Heng See Lin as deputy chief, while Wong Chia Zhen was elected Gerakan Youth leader, with Lee Boon Shian as his deputy.
The 18 members elected to Gerakan’s central committee today are: Dennis Gan, Sri Chandra Balabedha, Hng Chee Wey, Ch’ng Boon Chye, Tan Po Kiat, Gan Kim Keng, Lee Boon Shian, Puvaniten M Helan Govan, Chew Jyh Gang, Chai Ko Thing, Sin Koon Yen, Tan Lee Ngee, Woo Cheong Yuen, Teoh Chin Wan, Syed Nor Azman Syed Daros, Ooi Pei Nar, Tan Chin Hock and Loh Kah Yong.
