PETALING JAYA:
Umno will contest six of the 40 state assembly seats at next month’s elections.

State Umno chief Musa Sheikh Fadzir said the party will look at defending its two seats in Permatang Berangan and Sungai Dua, both of which are within the Tasek Gelugor parliamentary constituency.

“We will also contest in Penaga and Bertam in the Kepala Batas parliamentary constituency, as well as Sungai Acheh and Teluk Bahang in the Nibong Tebal and Balik Pulau parliamentary constituencies,” he told Utusan Malaysia.

“I cannot share the status of the one or two more seats that we are currently in discussions about. We expect negotiations to be concluded soon,” he said.

Musa also said a list of suitable candidates has been presented to party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for his consideration.

In 2018, Pakatan Harapan won 37 of the 40 seats, with Barisan Nasional winning two and PAS one. This was reduced to 33 following Bersatu’s departure from PH.

DAP held 19 seats, PKR 12, and Amanah two.

Selangor, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu are set to go to the polls on Aug 12.
