PUTRAJAYA:
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has announced that interns at GLCs will receive an allowance of at least RM800 a month.

He said the government agreed to provide higher internship allowances following suggestions it had received from Form 6 students.

“For GLCs, a minimum allowance of RM800 a month will be given to all interns,” he said at an event at the finance ministry.

Anwar also urged the private sector to follow suit and pay their interns an allowance.

Investment promotion agencies to be streamlined by year end

Anwar also said all agencies tasked with promoting, managing, or attracting investors should be brought under the investment, trade and industry ministry (Miti) by the end of the year.

He said the current system of overlapping agencies was too complicated and resulted in missed investment opportunities.

“One key element of the Madani government is establishing Malaysia as a globally-competitive investment destination,” he said.

“As such, by the end of 2023, Miti will take the lead in reducing duplication among the investment promotion agencies … with the aim of translating approved investments into realised investments.”
