No decision on next Penang CM yet, says Loke

The DAP secretary-general says there is an understanding that DAP will continue to lead the state if the unity government retains Penang.

DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook said the candidates for the Penang chief minister’s post would be discussed in the coming days.
PETALING JAYA:
No decision has been made on the chief ministerial candidate for Penang should Pakatan Harapan retain the state in the coming polls, DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook said.

Loke said there was an understanding between PH and Barisan Nasional that DAP would continue to lead Penang if they form the state government.

“Candidates (for the chief minister) has not been finalised, but (the matter) will be discussed in the next couple of days,” he told reporters after attending a forum here.

Loke was asked to comment on rumours that Gobind Singh Deo was being eyed for the post.

Loke said the party would employ different strategies to face the election to maximise its chances of winning and ensure a strong leadership in Penang.

“The central executive committee will meet soon to discuss our approach. We will not go into the election with uncertainty,” he said.

Earlier, Gerakan deputy president Oh Tong Keong called on Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow and DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng to come clean on DAP’s nomination for chief minister as the candidate would determine the state’s future development.

On Saturday, Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan said there were rumours that Steven Sim was poised to be Penang’s next chief minister, but Loke dismissed the claim.
