Site supervisor charged with assaulting convenience store worker

A construction site supervisor was charged in the Bangi magistrates’ court today with assaulting a convenience store worker in Semenyih last week.

US Divagaran pleaded not guilty after the charge was read out to him before magistrate Nurdiyanah Mohd Nawawi, Berita Harian reported.

Divagaran, 32, is accused of intentionally causing harm to the convenience store worker at Ecohill Taipan in Semenyih on June 20, a video of which has since gone viral on social media.

The charge was filed under Section 325 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to seven years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Siti Nur Liyana Mohd Sulaiman proposed bail of RM8,000 in one surety.

She also said that if bail is offered, the accused should not disturb the victim until disposal of the case.

However, defence counsel V Vickneswari requested a reduced amount.

The court granted bail of RM4,500 in one surety and fixed Aug 15 for the next mention.
