BN staying out of Mega Madani Selangor Tour, says Umno man

Selangor Umno deputy chairman Johan Aziz says they were not involved in any discussion about the event tonight.

According to a poster on PH’s official Facebook page, the Mega Madani Selangor Tour tonight was meant to launch the PH-BN election machinery in the state.
PETALING JAYA:
Barisan Nasional (BN) will not be participating in the Mega Madani Selangor Tour (Jelajah Mega Madani Selangor) event in Shah Alam tonight, says a state Umno leader.

Selangor Umno deputy chairman Johan Aziz said that BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will also not be present at the programme organised by Pakatan Harapan (PH) which is expected to feature Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who is PH chairman.

He added that the state BN leadership decided not to participate as their PH counterparts had not approached them on any discussions about the event.

According to a poster on PH’s official Facebook page, the Mega Madani Selangor Tour will feature top leaders from PH and BN. The poster also said the event will start with the launch of the PH-BN election machinery ahead of the upcoming state election in Selangor.

“I won’t say it’s a boycott, but the invitation (from PH) seemed to lack any importance. We were only invited to RSVP, so we informed them (PH) that we will not be attending.

“This (Mega Madani Selangor Tour) is their tour, so let them proceed first,” Johan said, adding that a separate BN-PH programme will be organised in the near future after both coalitions discuss the matter.

Aside from Anwar, the other PH leaders set to speak at tonight’s event include Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook, Selangor PH chairman Amirudin Shari and Selangor DAP chairman Gobind Singh Deo.

Selangor Umno chairman Megat Zulkarnain Omardin was also included in a post on PH’s Facebook page promoting the event.

The Selangor state assembly was officially dissolved yesterday, paving the way for the state polls to be held within 60 days.

Selangor is now governed by a caretaker government until the new state government is formed after the polls.

Selangor is one of the six states which will go to the polls this year. The other five states are Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu.
