Speaking to the media after a PN presidential council meeting here, its chairman Muhyiddin Yassin said PAS will be contesting 126 seats, with Bersatu contesting 83 and Gerakan 36.
“Seat negotiations went well and there were no misunderstandings that can trigger problems.
“We have concluded negotiations even before the Election Commission can announce the dates (for nominations).
“There are also a number of ‘non-incumbent seats’ that we will be contesting.
“Bersatu is contesting 64 seats, PAS 50 and Gerakan 36,” said Muhyiddin.
He added that the coalition will be contesting under the PN logo in Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor and Kedah. In Terengganu and Kelantan, they will contest under PAS’ banner.
Muhyiddin said the party has taken into consideration that Bersatu’s accounts have been frozen. However, it will still ensure the election machinery functions smoothly.
“The good thing is that most party leaders understand the situation and are willing to work hard, with some undertaking the responsibility to bear the cost of the election to minimise the party’s burden.
“Of course, when we go to the polls, we will contest together under PN. So, PAS, Bersatu and Gerakan will pool our efforts and whatever resources we have,” he said.
Muhyiddin also denied allegations that PN is “firing up” the Malays through racial and religious rhetoric, saying that they will be raising issues the country is facing.
He said discussions on inflation, cost of living, rising cost of goods and services, and helping the business community will be highlighted during their campaign.
Regarding voter turnout, Muhyiddin said he hoped for a bigger voter turnout than during the 15th general election.
