Raising petty issues lowers PAS’ dignity, says observer

A political observer says PAS MPs seem ‘obsessed over religion' without doing any proper study or research into the issues they raise.

PAS MP Wan Razali Wan Nor has been receiving brickbats over his remark that nurses’ uniforms are too tight and non-shariah compliant.
PETALING JAYA:
Raising petty issues such as nurses’ uniforms only serves to lower the dignity of PAS MPs, says political observer Sayuti Omar.

Speaking to FMT, he said politicians should make use of Parliament to raise critical or urgent topics, instead of being seen as “obsessed over religion” without doing any proper study or research into the issues that they raise.

“Outsiders will see that these admonishments from PAS lack quality, raise petty issues or divert from the topic of the debate. It is a loss for PAS,” Sayuti said.

On Thursday, Kuantan MP Wan Razali Wan Nor told the Dewan Rakyat during the debate on the health white paper that nurses’ uniforms show off a woman’s figure and are non-shariah compliant.

His comment came under fire from nurses’ unions and medical experts who described it as shameful at a time when many people are worried about the country’s health system.

However, Sayuti said despite the outrage at the Perikatan Nasional (PN) MP’s remark, this incident would not have any impact on the opposition coalition’s chances nor help Barisan Nasional (BN) at the upcoming state elections.

“It is just a joke that lowers the quality of PAS representatives, just like the jokes by Kedah menteri besar (Sanusi Nor),” he said.
