Kuantan police chief Wan Zahari Wan Busu said the victims, identified as Siti Mazurah Zulkifli, 30, and Siti Nur Alia Saffiyah, 18, were from Felda Lepar Hilir Satu here.

“The 11pm incident occurred when the tanker driver lost control of the vehicle, which was heading to a petrol station in Gambang, and entered the opposite lane before crashing into their car.

“The car, driven by Siti Nur Alia, slid underneath the tanker and both sisters were confirmed dead at the scene,” he said in a statement today, adding that it was raining at the time.

The 31-year-old tanker driver was arrested to assist in the investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for death caused by reckless or dangerous driving. A urine test for drugs turned out negative.
