Reprimand Syed Saddiq over LCS motion, says PKR Youth

PKR Youth says Pakatan Harapan must take this issue into consideration when deciding on Muda’s application to join the coalition.

Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman’s motion to debate the littoral combat ship issue was rejected by the Dewan Rakyat.
PETALING JAYA:
PKR Youth has urged the government to reprimand Muda and its president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman for “misleading the public” on his motion on the littoral combat ship (LCS) project in Parliament.

PKR Youth also urged Pakatan Harapan (PH) to take this issue into consideration when deciding on Muda’s application to join the coalition.

“We must rebuke Syed Saddiq for being disingenuous on the actual reason for the Dewan Rakyat Speaker’s rejection of the proposal he attempted to bring to Parliament recently,” PKR Youth said in a statement today.

“Syed Saddiq and Muda have continuously spread misinformation or half-truths that can unfairly tarnish the image of the federal government.”

On Thursday, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul reprimanded the Muar MP for being disingenuous when criticising his decision to reject the motion on the LCS issue.

In his correspondence with Syed Saddiq, Johari had said the motion was rejected as it did not clearly explain why the issue was definite, urgent, and of public interest, as required by Standing Order 18(2).

He said the Muar MP was being unfair as he had explained in the Dewan Rakyat that the motion did not fulfil the conditions under the Standing Orders.

Johari said he had informed Syed Saddiq that the defence ministry was required to submit progress reports on the LCS project every three months to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) until the frigates were delivered.

Johari added that he would allow a debate in the Dewan Rakyat once the PAC report was submitted.
