Responding to a comment by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, the PH chairman said the Islamic party should instead look at the policies the coalition had implemented as part of the unity government.
“It’s not a question about the majority in the coalition (being) non-Malays.
“The important thing is, our policies do not leave the Malays behind,” he told reporters after officiating an Orientalism Paintings Exhibition at the Islamic Arts Museum.
Anwar also said PAS should stop peddling such outdated narratives as Malaysia is a multiracial country.
In claiming that PH was unfit to be the government and lead the country due to the composition of the coalition, Hadi also said the current unity government was weak as it was not led by a Malay-Muslim party.
Hadi said in the last general election (GE15), DAP won 40 seats, PKR won 31 seats, 11 of which were non-Malay MPs, and Amanah won eight. Hadi said this rendered PH “hopeless”.
“So if PH gets involved it is actually dominated by non-Muslims,” the Marang MP said.
Separately, Anwar said that political leaders who had questioned as to why his administration was “digging into the past” were in fact afraid that they were being investigated for corruption.
“If you have taken, give it back, that is all I want,” he said referring to those who had plundered the country’s coffers.
