Man held over viral video insulting Islam

Bukit Aman's race, religion and royalty task force has arrested 12 people since it was formed in March.

The man has since been remanded for four days from May 10 to 13.

Police have arrested a 40-year-old man in Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur, over a viral video clip that was allegedly insulting to Islam.

In a statement, Bukit Aman said the classified criminal investigation unit (D5) also seized two handphones and three SIM cards from the suspect after he was apprehended yesterday.

The man has since been remanded for four days from May 10.

The case is being probed under Section 298A of the Penal Code for causing disharmony or enmity on grounds of religion and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for improper use of network facilities.

Meanwhile, Bukit Aman said its 3R (race, religion and royalty) task force had opened 18 investigation papers and arrested 12 people since it was formed in March.

It advised the public against misusing social media by making comments that could cause hatred or disharmony and warned that stern action would be taken.
