Acting Semporna police chief Arif Abdul Razak said the suspect was arrested at a water chalet on Saturday, hours after the 25-year-old victim lodged a report, Berita Harian reported.

“The victim claimed she was kissed by the assistant divemaster while scuba diving at an island here,” he said, adding that the incident happened at about 1pm on on Friday.

According to Arif, the woman lodged the report on Saturday morning before she boarded a flight from Tawau airport to Kuala Lumpur, and then return to her home country.

He said the suspect has been remanded for five days until May 11.

The incident went viral on Facebook after several images were shared online, including one of the victim being kissed while scuba diving, screenshots of the suspect’s conversation with the victim, as well as the police report.
