He said such a conspiracy had no basis and the government will just continue to focus on its work.
“If there’s no plot, what will these people do? They will just do their work. Every month, they will have some strategy,” he said, without naming anyone.
Anwar said the government, backed by four main coalitions – Pakatan Harapan (PH), Barisan Nasional (BN), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) – remains solid.
“Their commitment to the government is clear, so we don’t entertain the daydreamers,” he said.
It was reported last week that a conspiracy was being planned to bring down the Anwar-led administration.
The report said at least 10 MPs who had previously backed Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin for prime minister after the 15th general election were planning to force by-elections.
They were said to be planning to quit from their parties, thereby invoking the anti-hopping law which will cause their seats to be vacated.
Subsequently, BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the party would ensure no MP from the coalition conspired to overthrow the government.
Separately, on the royal pardon concerning former prime minister Najib Razak, Anwar said PH had discussed the matter without prejudice.
“Every single convicted person or prisoner has a right to appeal and we have to take into consideration the case and review it on a compassionate basis and professionally, without prejudice.
“This was the position we took,” he said.
However, he reiterated that the Pardons Board did not discuss Najib’s pardon in the last meeting.
Najib is serving a 12-year prison sentence and was fined RM210 million after the Federal Court upheld his conviction for charges of abuse of power, money laundering and criminal breach of trust over SRC funds amounting to RM42 million.
FMT had previously reported that the Pardons Board had not discussed Najib’s application for a royal pardon, although it had been said to have scheduled a meeting that day.
Meanwhile, in his speech at the Labour Day celebration in Putrajaya earlier, Anwar said some quarters have accused him of seeking revenge after action was taken against those who allegedly stole the people’s money.
“You stole millions of ringgit and were slapped with action, you claimed this was revenge.
“Then there are parties who manipulate religion to defend corrupt people and corrupt systems,” he said.
Anwar added that these are the same people who don’t discuss the plight of workers but are quick to defend corruption.
