4 men plead guilty to using criminal force, hurting cop

PETALING JAYA:
Four men, including two brothers, have pleaded guilty to using criminal force and causing hurt to a policeman in Pontian, Johor, on Aidilfitri last Saturday.

The magistrates’ court today set April 30 for the sentencing of the four, according to Bernama.

Magistrate Nur Azzuin Abdul Moali granted them bail of between RM1,500 and RM2,000 each pending sentencing at the Kulai magistrates’ court.

Efendi Said, 40, and his brother Fazli, 24, and Khalid Khamis, 38, were jointly charged under Section 353 of the Penal Code with using criminal force to deter policeman Hasrull Namiri from discharging his duty.

The offence carries a maximum jail term of two years or a fine, or both.

Another accused, Haikal Karim, 23, was charged with voluntarily causing hurt to the same policeman.

The charge, framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, provides a jail term of up to a year or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurezzati Zaini prosecuted, while the four accused were unrepresented.
