In a notice of appeal filed, the family said it was dissatisfied with the quantum of damages awarded in their conspiracy lawsuit against the government, political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda as well as former policemen Sirul Azhar Umar and Azilah Hadri over Altantuya’s death.
On Dec 16 last year, Justice Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera entered judgment against the defendants after holding them liable for her death.
Razak and the government have also filed appeals against the court’s findings on liability and the quantum of damages awarded.
The Court of Appeal has fixed all three appeals for case management on June 13.
Altantuya was shot dead in 2006 in a forest in Puncak Alam. Her body was later blown up with explosives.
In criminal proceedings conducted earlier, Azilah and Sirul were convicted by the Federal Court of her murder and sentenced to death.
Razak, a former aide to Najib Razak, was charged with abetting the duo, but was acquitted without his defence being called.
The civil suit was brought by Altantuya’s parents – Shaariibuu Setev and Altantsetseg Sanjaa – and her son, Mungunshagai.
In the court’s judgment, Vazeer held Sirul and Azilah liable for Altantuya’s death after finding they had “deliberately shot” and “strapped explosives” onto her.
He said Razak was the link between the two former policemen and Altantuya.
“The third defendant (Razak) was the one who enlisted the first defendant’s (Azilah) assistance to resolve the disturbance (by Altantuya).
“(Razak), in his statement to the police, mentioned that (Azilah) told him that he can ‘habiskan perempuan itu’ (destroy that woman) and (claimed he) had done it a few times before,” Vazeer had said.
During the trial of the civil suit, the court was told that Razak was Altantuya’s former lover.
The court heard that she had gone to Razak’s house some time in October 2006, and had demanded to see him as she wanted to collect payment for translation work done for him.
Razak took the position that he had no case to answer.
Sirul, who is being held at an Australian immigration detention centre, and Azilah, who is on death row at Kajang prison, did not challenge the family’s suit.
