MalaysiaGazette reported that the deputy PKR information chief received the mandate from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim recently.
Ramanan has also confirmed that he will chair the first meeting with the agency’s four newly appointed committee members.
The committee members are MIC’s Senator C Sivarraajh, DAP’s Klang MP V Ganabatirau, PKR’s R Yuneswaran and Mitra director-general K Raveendran Nair.
“After our meeting tomorrow, we will hold a press conference at the Mitra office in Putrajaya. We will announce our direction and plans,” he was quoted as saying.
In its previous iteration under former prime minister Najib Razak, Mitra was known as the Socio-Economic Development of the Indian Community Unit (Sedic). It was formed in 2013.
Its objective is to strengthen the Indian community, particularly the B40 low-income group.
After Barisan Nasional’s defeat in 2018, it was renamed as Mitra by the Pakatan Harapan administration.
During Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s tenure as prime minister, Mitra was placed under the Prime Minister’s Department. His administration also approved the formation of the Mitra Foundation.
However, the past few years saw Mitra dealing with financial scandals where some of those involved had been charged in court.
