National speed limit set at 80km/h for Raya period

Heavy goods vehicles are also banned on the roads on April 20-21 and April 24-25.

The transport ministry says the national speed limit has been reduced for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri period because of the anticipated heavy rise in traffic.
KUALA LUMPUR:
The national speed limit has been reduced to 80km/h on federal roads throughout the country in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, the transport ministry has announced.

A road ban on heavy goods vehicles will be in place on April 20-21 (before Hari Raya) and April 24-25 (after Hari Raya), taking into consideration a drastic rise in traffic, especially in private vehicles used for returning to hometowns.

The ministry said the road transport department will conduct strict enforcement to ensure motorists obey traffic rules to reduce the risk of accidents.

The road ban will affect seven types of goods vehicles and heavy lorries, platform trailers, tow trucks and tractors. A round-the-clock ban is imposed on heavy lorries with a load of more than 7.5 tons, transporting cement, iron, steel, stone, sand, soil, tin ore, coal or other building materials or minerals.

A road ban from midnight to 8am will be imposed on container trucks and cargo lorries (except those carrying goods to and from ports or airports and industrial zones in the same state).
