SHAH ALAM:
A former lawyer has pleaded not guilty in the sessions court here to four charges of disposing and transferring RM5.69 million believed to be proceeds from unlawful activities in 2017 and 2018.

Loke Chee Min, 64, was accused of committing the offences at three bank branches in Balakong and Seri Kembangan, near here, between Oct 12, 2017, and Jan 30, 2018.

The charges were framed under Section 4(1)(b) of the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Amla), punishable under Section 4(1) of the same law.

Loke faces a maximum 15 years’ jail and a minimum fine of RM5 million, if convicted.

Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Wan Nur Amanina Wan Din said bail should not be offered to Loke since he is serving a jail term for another offence.

Judge Norazlin Othman fixed May 11 for re-mention.
