They called on Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul to propose an amendment to the current PAC standing orders to enable the public to attend its hearings.
In a joint press statement today, Mas Ermieyati and Wong said that under the current standing orders, the proceedings can only be held behind closed doors.
“We believe that the PAC proceedings should be open to the public and that the hearings can be conducted in a transparent and accountable manner.
“This (proposed amendment) is in line with the government’s reform agenda,” they said.
Earlier today, the lower house appointed Mas Ermieyati (PN-Masjid Tanah) and Wong (PH-Kluang) to their new positions.
The PAC was previously led by then Ipoh Timur MP Wong Kah Woh, with former Beaufort MP Azizah Dun as his deputy.
Mas Ermieyati and Wong said that as part of their first official duties as PAC members, they will be visiting the Boustead Heavy Industries Corp (BHIC) dockyard in Lumut to look into the littoral combat ship (LCS) issue.
