PETALING JAYA:
A RM1 sale for Hari Raya attire at a boutique in Shah Alam ended in chaos yesterday as impatient shoppers rushed into the building only to find out that the promotion was limited to the first 100 customers.

In a TikTok video, frenzied shoppers could be seen trying to enter the boutique in Section 7, with the staff repeatedly reminding them over loudspeakers to be patient as they might break the glass door at the entrance.

Another TikTok video showed police personnel arriving at the boutique after shoppers fought among themselves to purchase cheap clothes, according to the user who uploaded the video.

The video clip also showed shoppers throwing clothing packages.

According to the TikTok user, the shoppers also pushed children and pregnant women away as they tried to secure their purchases.

Shah Alam police chief Iqbal Ibrahim said an estimated 500 people gathered at the boutique at around 10am to participate in the promotion.

“Due to safety concerns, the management agreed to halt operations at around 11.45am as it couldn’t handle the large number of customers,” he said in a statement.

Iqbal said despite the jostling, no untoward incidents were reported and no police reports were lodged.

He advised the public not to be easily influenced by such promotions and warned traders against such gimmicks that could confuse the public.
