KUALA LUMPUR:
A teenager was fined RM300 by the juvenile court here today for providing false information to a public servant two months ago.

If he defaults in the payment, the 17-year-old college student stands to be imprisoned for seven days.

The fine was imposed after the teenager pleaded guilty to a charge read to him before magistrate Nur Farahain Roslan.

The accused was charged with giving false information to Noradilah Azmee, a public servant, at Wangsa Maju police station at 3.03pm on Jan 3.

The act was said to have been committed with the intention of inducing the public servant to exercise lawful power regarding the matter that was communicated to her.

The student was charged under Section 182 of the Penal Code, after claiming that his identity card was stolen during a robbery.

Police investigations, however, revealed that there was no such robbery.

Lawyer Mohd Hafifi, who represented the juvenile, urged the court to impose a lenient sentence, saying this was his first offence. He also said the teenager was being cared for by a single father.

Deputy public prosecutor Nur Shakila Shariff represented the prosecution.
