“As I have said before, the open payment system will be implemented in phases involving various concession companies.
“Negotiations on this are ongoing to ensure the successful implementation of the multi-lane fast flow (MLFF) system,” Bernama reported.
The open system means road users will be allowed to use payment options other than Touch ’n Go to pay for tolls. This includes credit cards and debit cards.
Last week, Nanta said the Sungai Besi, New Pantai Expressway, Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway, Guthrie Corridor Expressway, the Penang bridge and the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway will implement the open system by September.
Nanta also announced that the Sungai Besi Expressway would be the first location for the implementation of the MLFF proof of concept (POC).
“This will be done at the end of October to evaluate the MLFF system before it is implemented on all highways in Malaysia.”
He said a second location will be announced soon.
