PETALING JAYA:
Deputy inspector-general of police (IGP) Razarudin Husain has been given a two-year contract extension.

He was supposed to retire last Tuesday.

On Monday, FMT reported that Razarudin was likely to be given a contract extension that will allow him to succeed the country’s current top cop, Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.

Acryl Sani’s contract as IGP ends in October.

Razarudin, 60, has been with the police force for 39 years. He was appointed deputy IGP in December 2021.

He began his career in 1984 as an investigating officer in the Kedah police’s criminal investigation department (CID) and remained there for 12 years. He then moved to the Muar police district, where he served as an administrative officer and eventually became the chief of the management department in 1997.

The following year, he was posted as a senior investigating officer to the Johor contingent before being transferred to the narcotics division in the Kluang district in 2000. After furthering his studies at the Cheras police academy, Razarudin was promoted to deputy superintendent and served as the Sandakan CID chief.

He then served as the district police chief in Kudat for three years.

Later, he was promoted to senior assistant commissioner and appointed as the deputy commander of the special task force on organised crime. Razarudin also served as the Penang CID chief and was later promoted to deputy commissioner of police, taking on the role of deputy Sabah police chief before being appointed as the deputy Perak police chief.

In 2019, he was appointed the Perak police chief and in September 2020, he was made the Bukit Aman narcotics CID chief.
