Its deputy minister, Akmal Nasir, said the review and amendment of the Act were in line with the third Rolling Plan of the 12th Malaysia Plan.
“With respect to joint management bodies or management committees that are inactive or failed to be appointed, this matter will also be scrutinised in the review of the amendment of Act 757, which will be done soon,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat today.
He was responding to a question by Syahredzan Johan (PH-Bangi) on the number of low-cost flats without active joint management bodies, management committees or those who failed to appoint them.
Akmal was also asked about the short and long-term measures taken by the ministry to help manage and maintain such buildings and their shared facilities.
He revealed that as of Jan 31, of the 4,218 low-cost flats nationwide, 1,084 did not have joint management bodies or management committees.
He said the ministry had taken steps such as holding awareness talks on the importance of having such committees, as well as keeping a list of low-cost flats without such committees and directing the commissioner of buildings to appoint management agents.
Akmal said the ministry also provided technical advice to the commissioner of buildings, as well as sought solutions for related issues at local government level.
