Siti Nurul Hidayah said the incident happened when she went to MACC to give a statement in relation to its probe into the former Bersatu Youth chief.
After the incident, Nurul, who served as Syed Saddiq’s private secretary, lodged a police report in Putrajaya and held a press conference.
Her lawyer, Haijan Omar, produced a copy of the report in court but could not tender it as evidence because some paragraphs were missing. Nurul will tender the original report tomorrow.
Previously, Syed Saddiq testified that Nurul, her husband Abdul Hannaan Khairy and then Bersatu treasurer Rafiq Hakim Razali were intimidated by MACC officers.
The Muda president also said the trio’s statements, which were favourable to his case, were suppressed.
According to Nurul’s witness statement, she was involved in raising funds for Syed Saddiq’s 2018 election campaign and collected around RM30,000 that was used to book a hall as well as pay for food and beverages, and for volunteers.
“I must admit that the fundraiser in Muar failed to get a good response,” she said, adding that Syed Saddiq spent about RM170,000 for the campaign, which was reported to the Election Commission.
Cross-examined by deputy public prosecutor Ashraf Tahir, Nurul said she was unsure about the details of the charges Syed Saddiq faced.
“However, I am here to help the accused in his defence and ensure that he is not convicted of the charges,” she added.
Syed Saddiq has been charged with abetting in criminal breach of trust (CBT), misappropriation of assets and money laundering in relation to some RM1.2 million in funds linked to Bersatu Youth.
His defence on the CBT charge is that there was no provision in Bersatu’s constitution requiring him to get approval from its Supreme Council for the use of its funds.
On the misappropriation charge, Syed Saddiq said he secured the money by personally organising two fundraising projects held in Muar and Ampang.
The trial before Justice Azahar Abdul Hamid continues tomorrow.
