“I am always open. I have been investigated, brought to court and I am prepared any time,” said Zahid in response to a call by Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin for MACC to investigate him and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim over the source of party funds.
Muhyiddin, who has been charged with soliciting bribes of RM232.5 million on behalf of Bersatu, had said earlier today that investigations into the sources of political donations should be fair and equal.
Zahid, speaking to reporters in Johor Bahru, said he had been investigated by MACC before. “Thus, we have been in the same boat. So (Muhyiddin) should just face up to whatever (charges) brought against him.”
He added: “I have faced (investigations before). I wish him all the best”, Bernama reported.
In his policy speech at the Bersatu annual general assembly today, Muhyiddin said the investigation into the sources of political donations should be fair and equal.
He said he should not be alone in getting charged in court (over political donations), and urged MACC to investigate Zahid and Anwar over the source of funds for their parties.
Muhyiddin was charged on Friday with abuse of power in soliciting bribes amounting to RM232.5 million on behalf of Bersatu. He was also charged on two counts of money laundering amounting to RM195 million.
