PETALING JAYA: Former Wanita Umno leader Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, making a comeback attempt, has taken an early but slim lead ahead of Noraini Ahmad in the race to head Wanita Umno.
According to unofficial results as of 7.53pm, Noraini, the incumbent Wanita Umno chief, has garnered eight votes while Shahrizat has ten.
Noraini and Shahrizat, the former’s predecessor in the Wanita Umno post, are in a straight fight to lead the party’ women’s wing.
Shahrizat had won the Wanita chief’s post in 2009 after defeating Rafidah Aziz, who had held the post of women’s wing leader from 1999.
Meanwhile, Merlimau assemblyman Dr Akmal Saleh is leading the race for the Umno Youth chief post with 14 votes, with Paya Besar MP Shahar Abdullah trailing with eight votes.
