Ex-Kedah MB Syed Razak dies

Syed Razak Syed Zain was the former assemblyman for Kubang Rotan and served as Kedah menteri besar from 1999 to 2005.

Former Kedah menteri besar Syed Razak Syed Zain has died due to a health issue. He was 79.

The eighth Kedah menteri besar breathed his last at around 11am, surrounded by his family at their home in Sungai Petani, Kedah, Berita Harian reported.

Acting Kuala Kedah Umno chief Zaki Zamani Abd Rashid said Syed Razak’s health had deteriorated over the past three days.

Syed Razak was formerly the Kubang Rotan assemblyman and served as Kedah menteri besar from 1999 to 2005, after taking over the post from Sanusi Junid.

He resigned from the post due to health issues during the Abdullah Ahmad Badawi administration, and was replaced by the then Pedu assemblyman Mahdzir Khalid.
