
He said all parties from the federal and state governments have joined hands to ensure that the people received assistance as soon as possible.
“I hope the victims will be patient. We pray the floods will recede quickly and the weather will improve today,” he told reporters after visiting flood victims at a temporary evacuation centre at SK Temenggong Abdul Rahman.
Onn Hafiz said those reported to have been trapped earlier had been rescued by disaster relief personnel, including those from the armed forces, the police, the fire and rescue department and the defence force.
He said all parties had displayed strong commitment amid the crisis, especially in providing food, tents and other necessities.
He also expressed his appreciation to Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar and Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, who agreed to donate food aid and were concerned about the victims.
The state disaster management committee said the number of flood victims had more than doubled to 25,213 this morning involving all 10 districts in Johor.
Segamat is the worst affected district with 2,050 families evacuated, followed by Kluang (1,559), Kota Tinggi (769), Johor Bahru (607) and Pontian (58).
A Bernama survey in Segamat found that the water level had dropped but some roads were still impassable to light vehicles.
