New Straits Times reported that the pensioner died at Melaka Hospital from internal bleeding in the head in the 2.40am incident. He had also suffered injuries to his body and legs.
According to the report, the man’s son alleged that his father had scolded the driver and his friend for being rowdy while drinking alcohol in the car, parked behind a restaurant at Plaza Pandan Malim.
“At about 2.40am, my father and I were woken from our sleep by loud music coming from the parking area. My father went to reprimand the two men and they left in the car.
“Just as we were getting back to the house, they returned and we had to go out again to ask them to leave.
“The car suddenly lunged forward and tried to hit me. I managed to avoid it and hid behind a building. Then I saw it turn around and head towards my father. He was holding on to the bonnet and was dragged for about 20m,” he said.
He said he screamed for help as the car sped off, and called for an ambulance.
The son said the incident was recorded by a closed-circuit TV (CCTV) camera in the area.
Melaka Tengah police chief Christopher Patit said a 28-year-old suspect has been detained and remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation. Police are still tracking down a 27-year-old man.
He said the investigation is being conducted under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
