PETALING JAYA:
The federal government will channel RM5 million in allocation for the maintenance of streams and blocked drains that cause frequent flash floods in Penampang.

Entrepreneur development and cooperatives minister Ewon Benedick, who is also Penampang MP, said the allocation will be channelled soon.

Speaking after opening a cooperative community programme in Kota Kinabalu, Ewon said this was a short-term solution to mitigate floods in the district.

He said he had met deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi after flooding occurred here recently and he had agreed to channel the special allocation for temporary mitigation efforts.
